Dickson has a new lease of life

RYAN Dickson has revealed that signing for Colchester United has given his career a new lease of life.
The attacking left-back has started all three of the U’s opening games this season, after arriving on a free transfer from Southampton.
Dickson, who made only six appearances in the whole of last season while on loan at Bradford City, has played his part in Colchester recording back-to-back wins in League One.
And the 26-year-old defender has also taken particular satisfaction in helping them secure successive clean sheets in the league.
Dickson said: “I’m really enjoying it.
“It’s been nice to start games straight away and it’s great to get some matches under my belt.
“We have a good bunch of lads and the set-up at the football club has helped me massively to settle in.
“We’re very pleased with the way things have gone so far.
“We’ll not get carried away but it’s something to build on.
“We’ve all worked hard on the way we want to play and I’m pleased with the start we’ve made.
“It’s good to get the two league wins and getting clean sheets is something that you aim for as a defender and as a team.
“Getting team sheets sets the foundation to go on and win.”
Dickson is given plenty of licence to attack, as part of manager Joe Dunne’s positive approach.
The U’s boss is keen to see his full-backs go forward as much as possible and the former Brentford full-back says that suits his game.
“The philosophy of the football club is very forward thinking and the gaffer prides himself on having a positive team,” said Dickson.
“He wants his players to go out and express themselves and play their game and that’s great for me.”
