Dunne full of praise for U's after "remarkable" win

Huge win - Colchester United manager Joe Dunne had nothing but praise for his players after their superb 2-1 win at Bury. Huge win - Colchester United manager Joe Dunne had nothing but praise for his players after their superb 2-1 win at Bury.

Colchester United manager Joe Dunne hailed his "remarkable" players after they recorded a crucial 2-1 at fellow strugglers Bury this afternoon.

The U's gave their survival hopes a massive lift in League One, after goals from Josh Thompson and Clinton Morrison gave them a huge three points at Gigg Lane to cancel out Craig Fagan's opener for the Shakers.

Colchester, who were missing several players due to illness and injury, had to play for more than 90 minutes with only ten men after winger George Porter was sent off for serious foul play.

Dunne said: "It was a remarkable win in every sense of the word.

"We had five players who played when they were 50 per cent fit and we had to leave five or six at home.

"We gave our all and let's be honest, we rode our luck.

"They had a lot of chances but for all of the chances they had, we'll take it because the courage and commitment we showed deserved something."

Well done Joe and his boys. Joe deserved this success and they did it for him. Fantastic, brilliant result.
Craig Fagan, a decent player, only got to score once, and it seems he missed several more. Anyone remember our home match against Hull City, the year they got promoted to the Premiership, but we beat them 5-1? We were all chanting: Fagan, what's the score? Fagan, Fagan, what's the score? He didn't look happy then, and I don't suppose his manager is happy now.

Does anyone have any gas and air for when the U's are away from home to help me through the radio commentary's!? The last three games listening to that I have nearly passed out. Bloody hell that's hard, especially when your radio is playing up, you tune it in a few minutes into the game to hear "....U's player off....crackle,fuzz.
...Porter off....crackle...". But far play and well done JD, his staff and his team and especially all those 180 odd who made the journey. Excellent effort all round. For once we won and results went for us. Oldham have to win 2 and draw 1 of their games in hand to draw level and Scunny need to win theirs too.
A couple of wins, a couple of draws, (and crucially not losing to Oldham and Shrewsbury), and that should be job done.
I don't think that anyone can say we deserve to be where we are on the last two or three months and I believe had Joe had his team from the start of the season we would be a comfy mid table. Let's hope we can see this through.
Well done JD et al.

Joe and the boys deserve immense credit for the way they have played in recent away games despite getting 2 players sent off from harsh decisions. The atmosphere yesterday at Gigg Lane was electric and the tension amongst the away fans was unbelievable. It was great to see the team get justice when they suffered great adversity. There was great collective togetherness and inspired goalkeeping. Well done one and all.

think the main thing is under joe is how exciting the team is, and not the bore draws that we had come accustomed too. were not going to win them all, but that's entertainment

Hats of to the U's, team hit by injury's and illness then the brainless Porter kicking out like that, added to his silly freekick he gave away against Coventry! It was a foul get backup and get on with it, red cards this stage of the season are terrible and most of all you let your team mates down. Ten hero's and fantastic games by Walker and Morrison. Up the U's!

I totally agree! The team and the way we play is exciting. and is entertaining. We lost the other day against Crewe, I still left the game thinking we played exciting football, just unfortunate about the referee. This football is better than that under JW.

I agree with Surb and Angryman. The U's are far more exciting to watch under JD than they were under JW.
At the same time, it is pleasing to see how Bristol Rovers have recovered under JW. When he took over there, they were heading for relegation. Now they look safe. Don't know what the Bristolians think of the team's playing style, but they must be happy that they will still be playing league football next season. John Ward is a genuinely nice man, and while I'm glad he has gone, I'm pleased that his new team is giving him some success.

I agree about the entertainment value, much better than it was under draw specialist Ward. Disagree with lollardknight's comment about George Porter. The lad has come in for some awful treatment by opposition teams in the last few games and referees have not affforded him any protection at all. You can't keep being kicked up in the air like he has been. On this particular occasion the referee's decision to send him off after 3 mins for very little in the way of retaliation with no punishment at all for the initial offender was harsh in the extreme and totally spoilt the game as a spectacle. Porter is a young lad who is still learning his trade, so give him a break and would love to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

It is so refreshing to see so many positive comments on here. But please bare this in mind, we can't and probably won't win every game between now and the end of the season. Although, I'm sure Joe will be expecting that from the players. I think we will survive (and I’ve said this as soon as Joe took over) but there is still more hard work to be done before we can start celebrating another season in League One.

Will anyone be honest enough to say they were wrong when they made statements like:

Too many loan players who won't fight for the club.

What's a woman doing the training for pre-match ?

Joe is a nice guy but is tactically naive and is just a cheap option.

Bring back O’Toole (in the past few stories on here I don’t think he’s even been mentioned).

Joe has proved the decisions he made above was the right ones.

Let's face it, quite a few people shouted too loudly and too fast when Joe first took over. I believe he has steadied this ship and I for one think that next season could look a lot more promising.

So if things now and again do go wrong or we have the odd bad game, let’s not start shouting for Joe's head or state that Robbie is only in this to build his houses. We all want the club to do well and it helps so much more when we're all pulling in the same direction.

Well done Joe and the team, and well done Robbie for having the B*lls to install Joe as manager in the first place.
