Dunne - U's players must be up for the fight
10:26am Tuesday 26th February 2013 in Sport By Jonathan Waldron
Looking for a response - Joe Dunne wants his Colchester United players to show they are up for the challenge against Yeovil Town tonight.
Joe Dunne has challenged his struggling side to repay the support of Colchester United’s fans by beating in-form Yeovil Town tonight.
And the U’s boss has warned his players they will be shown the door if they do not rise to the challenge.
Dunne is demanding a big response from his team, in the wake of their 5-1 defeat against Tranmere Rovers last weekend.
The majority of Colchester supporters stuck by Dunne and his players against Tranmere, despite the magnitude of their side’s home defeat.
And Dunne wants his side to show similar determination, as they aim to secure a much-needed win in their battle to beat the drop.
Colchester head into tonight’s match three points adrift of safety, in League One.
Dunne said: “The fans are up for the fight and if we can pass some of that on into our changing room, I’ll do my best to.
“The fans were great again (against Tranmere) but we need to give them something back.
“We have a challenge tonight and we must respond."

I know Kem played 90 minutes at Ipswich last night, but I'd like to see him on the bench, to stiffen the team's backbone in the final 20 minutes, if by some miracle we are leading or drawing at that stage. Kem would ensure no repeat of the late-stage collapse against Tranmere.

And in case anyone thinks a player should not be asked to play two nights running, remember that in the 1950s and 60s the whole team sometimes used to play two days running, for example Xmas Eve and Xmas Day, or Xmas Day and Boxing Day. No subs were allowed then, so everyone played the full 90 minutes.

But with what we know nowadays concerning fitness levels to a level where managers are making their players have their tooth fillings removed because the lead might affect their stamina levels, why would we want to disadvantage ourselves with players performing at 50% efficiency? Back in the 50's and 60's players where probably encouraged to smoke and drink more. The game was more physical and more demanding in other ways. Not anymore.
Sorry, I have just spotted in the CUFC website report that Kem "only" played 65 minutes last night, so then perhaps he is up for the last 20 or 25 minutes against Yeovil.

Could be the lowest gate of the season. Could mean we get a win. Thats usually what happens.
