Joe Dunne believes his new-look Colchester United squad is the most harmonious it has been since he took over as manager.

The U’s boss has made sweeping changes to his playing ranks, following his appointment in the hot seat last September.

Dunne has signed nine players since the turn of the year, with West Brom youngster Bradley Garmston the latest arrival on loan.

And the likes of Anthony Wordsworth, Ian Henderson and Michael Rose have all left Colchester, over recent weeks.

Colchester travel to play promotion-chasing Sheffield United tomorrow, on the back of three wins from their last four games.

And Dunne feels the level of unity among his revamped squad is in full evidence.

He said: “I think this is the most together the squad has been since I took over.

“I think that this is my changing room now and I think we’ve seen recently that they’re willing to go for it.

“I’m really happy with the team and the changing room and the work ethic."

its quite impressive how quickly hes made his mark on the team, the main thing is staying up this season, then obv there is some work to be done as the team heavily depends on loans, but if he does keep us up I have every faith that it will be a very good team indeed,

I think this is a more telling issue than we realise and there has clearly been some dissent in the ranks. Previous comments have alluded to this and the cancelling of contracts and influx of younger loanees suggests that JD is after a certain level of commitment. He should be commended for this. Sweeping changes are more suited when you're mid to higher table position but clearly there has problems and that has crept into the mindset of the team. Once that happens in any organisation is gnaws away. We've seen a lack if cohesion and, worse, a lack of commitment and care from others on the pitch. The last few games just prior to and since deadline day we have seen a different outlook and a different vibe. The players coming out in the press are positive and players loaned in from Premiership set ups are commenting in positive ways so clearly those behind the scenes and JD are doing all they can. I'm convinced we can stay up. If we lose games in coming weeks we have to hold strong and believe that the points will come. Beating the teams around us is essential and picking up points elsewhere where we can sort this and I firmly believe next season we will be stronger. Hopefully stronger in league 1.

Surely, the amount of players coming in ( many already departed after loans ), and going out ( some for good ), represents the highest volume of transactions ever in such a short space of time at Colchester United.

Perhaps Jonathan or someone else can give us a count up - my guess is well over 20 movements either way.

One thing for sure though, many of us are really likeing Joe's approach.
