Coker the latest player to be released by U's
12:06pm Monday 4th February 2013 in Sport By Jonathan Waldron
Farewell - Ben Coker has had his contract cancelled by Colchester United.
Ben Coker has left Colchester United after having his contract cancelled.
The attacking left-back has become the latest U's player to depart the Weston Homes Community Stadium, following Ian Henderson, Michael Rose, Tom Bender and Carl Pentney out of the club.
Coker's first-team opportunities have been few and far between this season and he has not figured in League One under boss Joe Dunne.
His last league appearance for Colchester came in their 1-0 defeat at Brentford, in September.
Coker, 23, joined Colchester from non-league outfit Bury Town in the summer of 2008.
He made nearly 50 appearances for the U's, scoring once.

I would guess that under no circumstances, Coker and co would be playing first team football and therefore told they can leave if they wish to. I would also guess that they held onto all of them until after the window closed in case another team was going to pay for them.
I happened to really like Coker. I thought he was a solid left back and better than what we have.
I don't know Coker on a personal level so it would be unfair of me to make comments about his attitude or commitments to the club.
Lets hope we get another left back in soon and wish Coker a good career in football.

I am unsure as to why Cowling is being debated here. As far as I am aware, Joe Dunne is the manager and he was told to make his mark on this squad. So anyone who comes in or goes out is down to Dunne.
