U's beat Walsall to end losing run

Colchester United ended their nine-match losing run with a vital 2-0 win over Walsall this afternoon.

Jabo Ibehre, who signed for the U's from MK Dons earlier this week, gave Colchester the lead with 12 minutes to go from the edge of the area, after substitute Freddie Sears had closed down Walsall goalkeeper Ian McLoughlin's clearance.

And Sears added a second in the 89th minute when he tapped in from substitute George Porter's low cross into the penalty area.

It was Colchester's first win since beating Bury 2-0, in mid-November.

The Us did magnificently! Well deserved and a very overdue win. What's more, super sub Freddie is on a role. I've never seen the crowd and the atmosphere so alive. A very, very well done

I agree I thought the crowd responded really well today, and I thought that pushed the lads on. Not a great show, but it showed by having Sears,Porter and Ibere with pace up front the difference it made in those last ten minutes.

Fantastic game, about time we saw some good football, especially in the 2nd half when we changed to 442. First half showed that we can defend, and showed less of an attacking threat. I feel that the introduction of David Wright in the defensive midfield was one of the key factors as he controlled the defence, and allowed the other midfielders to attack. The new GK had a good debut game, and gave our first clean sheet in a while, hopefully Cousins learnt that communication with the defenders is key to success. In terms of attacking threat, Jabo was immense throughout the game, but I feel the turning point was young Porter coming on and Freddie Sears. They both ran circles around the defence, especially showing their pace and top notch passing. That 2nd goal showed how much it meant to everyone in Col Utd, players ran to Sears, Dunne jumping up with Kinsella and fans stunned with smiles. A brilliant game, I'm now tempted to go to Pompy.

4-4-2 what the crowd has been asking for, has Joe had his ears syringed?

Agree with all previous comments, and a well deserved, morale-boosting win! Well done U's! At last! We can hopefully build on this result and steer clear of the relegation zone! I was impressed with the three substitutions, I thought all three, along with Jabo , John White and Sam Walker in goal, made the difference! I wasn't impressed with the first half display, some lacklustre and dire defending particularly from 'captain' Josh Thompson. However, we all have bad days, but I was impressed with the grit and determination shown by Tom Eastman. Great to see Freddie enjoying himself, too and Mr Porter, what an inspired display of wing attacking football! Just a pity he took the ball to the corner at the end of the game and didn't cross into the box again as I think a third goal was on for Jabo or Freddie to convert. Long may this 4-4-2 style continue! Up the U's!!
