U's sign goalkeeper Walker

Colchester United have signed goalkeeper Sam Walker from Premier League side Chelsea until the end of April, The 21-year-old has linked up with the U's, having spent time on loan at League Two side Bristol Rovers earlier in the season.

Walker started as a schoolboy at Millwall, before moving to Stamford Bridge.

He becomes Colchester's sixth signing this month, following the permanent arrivals of Josh Thompson and Jack Compton from Portsmouth and the loan moves for Dominic Samuel, George Porter and Walker's Chelsea team-mate, Billy Clifford.

Can't be any worse than Cousins.

I'm glad he knows that Cousins is a weak link. Lets hope this loanee can communicate with the defence. Although I'm worried that he was on loan to Bristol Rovers, and they are in the relegation zone... Hmmm

Goalkeepers named Walker have always brought the U's good luck,so I hope Sam will do,too. He was a member of
Chelsea's 2010 FA Youth Cup winning team and and he is also 6ft 5in tall,
which is the other bit of good news.

Don't care how old or young he is as long as he can organise that defence , command his area and bring some stability. We can't win while we keep letting stupid goals in so I welcome this. I've always felt Cousins deserved his chance but it just hasn't worked for him. I wish the new lad all the best.

To all posters over last few days I would like to say I've really enjoyed all the comments. Some real depth shown and highlights that despite the frequency of mini arguments on here that what shows through is the care for club.

Good to see rc come out in such support for jd. It's a ballsy call, would have been easy to have sacked him and hoped for new manager syndrome and get some points. Hopefully he backs him with some transfer funds, I think this will def be the case if Wordsworth goes.
Think we still need an experienced centre defender (Eastman and josh both look good but I think an older head would help).
I sincerely think once we get that win we will go on a run.
Still be nice to see the arsenal boys to come back, I think that may be a wish to much.

Doesn't matter about the size of the keeper, whether he is 6'5" or 3'2" it is down to the defence in front of him. Unfortunately, this season, our defence has been woeful. Time to prepare for relegation.

What does our own keeper, Carl Pentney, have to do to get selected?
What is the point in paying a good man a salary just to sit on the bench? And he won't even be doing that now, if Cousins is sitting there.

From the Bristol Post,November 2,2012:
"Goalkeeper Sam Walker believes being dropped from the Bristol Rovers side earlier this season has served to give him a much-needed 'kick up the
backside.' The 21 year old let in
nineteen goals as Rovers struggled to
find any sort of form."
John Ward has now brought
in an experienced goalkeeper,
Steve Mildenhall,33,to replace Walker.

This guy needs to be given a chance, lets face it can't be worst than Cousins.
Although I would of preferred an experienced goalkeeper. If Van der sar could of played til 35+ years there must be some good goal keepers out there going into retirement.
