Dunne issues U's rallying cry ahead of crucial clash

Essex County Standard: Rallying cry - U's boss Joe Dunne wants his players to rise to the challenge against Scunthorpe United tomorrow. Rallying cry - U's boss Joe Dunne wants his players to rise to the challenge against Scunthorpe United tomorrow.

Joe Dunne has told his Colchester United players to stay at home if they are not ready to battle for the badge tomorrow.

The U’s boss wants his struggling side to come out fighting in their League One relegation clash with Scunthorpe United, who lie a point below them in the table.

Colchester head into the vital showdown desperate to avoid setting a new club record of nine successive league defeats.

Defeat would also see the U’s drop into the relegation zone but Dunne believes his players are feeling bullish about their chances of victory.

Dunne said: “These are big games that you have to step up to."

This game is massive! A real 6-pointer if ever there was one! I think it will be pretty decisive too and may have some bearing on our future in this division. Come on U's fans, let's give the boys the support they both need and deserve and let us be the twelfth man to get that all-important win. Up the U's!!

Yes, I hope the crowd does get behind the team tomorrow, but so far Joe's influx of experienced players hasn't materialised and neither has the removal of dead wood. Scunthorpe managed to pick up Akpo Sodje during the week so experienced pro's going to unfashionable clubs do exist. I agree with Ozzie, this will be a win or bust game. Win and we could possibly stay up whereas, if we lose or draw, it will probably mean curtains and L2 football next season.

Not particularly hopeful I have to say, but I shall get behind them tomorrow.

Well Joe if the current season is anything to go by you might find that you only have a five-a-side team turn up on Saturday as we've not seen much fight so far.

However, I will be there tomorrow and cheering on the guys.

Up the U's

I'll be there too and hoping-upon-hope that the players do turn up. So often this season they haven't shown the sort of commitment necessary. I put this down to the management's inability to motivate, as well. There is, I believe, an underlying problem of some magnitude at the Club in terms of player-performance. Meanwhile, the fans patience has been commendable during this terrible run of games.
Come on U's: please, please give us something to cheer and get excited about for a change!

I'll be there tomorrow, and like others I also hope the team turns up. Some players on this team are letting the team down, the club and more importantly the fans. They know who they are and they best get their playing boots on other the fans will be on their back.

I really can't understand all this migration into the club of young loan players. It isn't what is needed in the short term. And our current plight demands short-term solutions as well/instead.

United we stand : Let me explain why the youth intake as it's simple really. Youth players don't count against the 65% salary cap applied by the authorities whereas experienced pro's do. Because we have been unable to get rid of any of our senior players, we must be already up to our maximum salary cap without incurring penalties which comes by way of a transfer embargo.
