Joe wants fresh blood to pep up defensive competition

First published in Sport by

Joe Dunne wants to raid the transfer market after losing patience with his defenders.

The Colchester United boss will meet with chairman Robbie Cowling, with a view to bringing in fresh blood.

Dunne was angry with the manner of the two goals the U’s conceded, in their 2-0 home defeat against Notts County.

He is now contemplating adding to his squad, in a bid to cut out Colchester’s defensive mistakes.

Dunne said: “The Notts County game was the last straw and I need to bring in more competition for the defence."

Defensive frailty has been the case since the nucleus of the Championship squad was disbanded. However, I'm not sure how Robbie Cowling will view this. I'm sure other members of the squad will have to be farmed out before he's allowed to bring in any other loanees in.

There needs to be one hell of a cull really throughout the squad! Without being or sounding detrimental to specific players, we do need a strong back-up goalkeeper, too, or at least one that will make Mark Cousins realise that he must not take his place in the first team for granted. Up the U's!! P.s. Joe -Have a look locally at the local talent that is available - get local players to play for the team with real 'passion' for the club!
