Jewell leaves Ipswich by mutual consent

Paul Jewell has left Ipswich Town.

The club have confirmed his departure by mutual consent.

Town lost 2-1 at home to Derby County last night and that proved the final straw, with the club having failed to win in 11 games.

"We all know football is a results business and I've never hidden from the fact our results haven't been good enough," said Jewell.

Owner Marcus Evans added: "Since he first walked through the door here, no-one has worked harder to bring success to this football club than Paul Jewell.

"Unfortunately, his outstanding commitment has not been rewarded by results on the pitch."

Tuesday's defeat also saw Town drop to the bottom of the Championship table.

Assistant boss Chris Hutchings will take charge in a caretaker role.
