U's continue fine form with impressive win at Orient
10:02pm Tuesday 23rd October 2012 in Sport By Jonathan Waldron
On target - Anthony Wordsworth scored Colchester United's opening goal in their 2-0 win over Leyton Orient tonight.
Colchester United continued their fine start under Joe Dunne with an impressive 2-0 win at Leyton Orient tonight.
Goals from Anthony Wordsworth and Ian Henderson helped the U's secure their fifth win in six league matches under boss Dunne, at Brisbane Road.
Colchester fully deserved their win over the O's and they played some excellent football in the first half.
Gavin Massey and Brian Wilson went close and although U's keeper Mark Cousins denied Scott Wagstaff and Ryan Brunt, the visitors were the better side.
Colchester took the lead 12 minutes before the break through Wordsworth, who scored from just inside the area after Massey had picked him out in the area.
Craig Eastmond almost doubled the U's lead just before half-time but they scored their second five minutes after the break.
Ian Henderson followed up to score from close range, after the O's keeper Ryan Allsop saved Eastmond's long-range effort.
Cousins saved from Wagstaff again and former U's striker David Mooney also had an effort but the U's almost added a third before the end when Jabo Ibehre fired wide, as Colchester maintained their fine form.

n of the players on the pitch, and players wiling to take the ball forward and create. Not in a million years with Ward as manager and Izzet in midfield would we be in this position now. It should be a five thousand crowd for next Tuesday.

Another terrific result last night and, now sitting more comfortably in the middle of the table, gives the team a solid platform to build on. With a more positive atmosphere developing at the WHCS now, who knows what can still be achieved this season so, come on you armchair supporters get down to the WHCS and give your team the full support it now richly deserves.

creative,exciting,pa
ssionate and attacking football. We'll have a few bad results at some point but belief and passion are back at WHCS in abundance. If you havent seen the "new U's" yet I suggest you get along to a game soon.

one we should be concerned about.
Because Anthony Wordsworth's contract expires at the end of this season,as he reportedly signed a two year deal in 2011,unless he has signed a revised deal since then,He will also be twenty four on January 3,so unless he does sign a fresh
contract he could leave on a free at the end of the season.
To be fair to John Ward,Woody enjoyed his best-ever season under JW last season.
He was the U's top league scorer with
thirteen goals,his best-ever total.
He was the players' player of the year.
He was runner up in the player of the
year vote.
He also won the 'goal of the season'
award.
But will this be his last season at
Colchester?.
Twice in recent days Joe Dunne
has acknowledged some of the good work John Ward did for the U's.Joe revealed that the Jabo Ibehre loan deal was being arranged when JW was in charge. In the EADT the other day,
Joe also praised JW for bringing Tom Eastman to Colchester. These are small details, but they tell us a bit more about Joe's goodness and decency.

I am not getting too carried away at the moment though, because we have seen what has happened to Tranmere recently. We might be good, but great teams play longer than a month. We need to kick on with our form and not look back now until we hit that proverbial wall and then assess our progression when it happens.

I haven't forgotten you and others on here were not too pleased when Joe Dunne was first installed as manager. John Ward deserves respect for doing his best for the club, he's gone now so there's nothing to gain by putting him down.. As for me I have always been consistant in my view that managers players come and go, It's the club I love..I am so pleased our team is having great success at the moment, and I'm quietly confidant we will make a top six spot this time.
One of the first things on the agenda for me right now if I was the chairman, would be to to sit down with Joe and offer him an extended contract. Eyes will soon be preying down from higher clubs above, and I believe Joe is only on a contract to end of season. Fantastic result again last night, and once again keeping a clean sheet. When I look back to some of the blogs from certain quarters ( no names mentioned only it begins with N ) when Ward was in charge,I now hope they have opened their eyes. Always trying to blame it,on low budgets, and other managers having had bigger purse strings. Just a load of B-llocks. It all boils down to hardwork, organisatio

RB, Lexden wrote:It is interesting that Jabo Ibehre was on U's radar when Ward was in charge but didn't join until he was sacked. It is also interesting that Eastmond and Watt joined almost immediately after Ward was sacked. Could it be that the parent club and managers of these loanees were not prepared to send them to Colchester whilst they were playing the dire and negative stuff that Ward insisted upon? It wouldn't surprise me if Wenger refused to loan his players while U's were playing Wards desperate brand of 'football'. How on earth could that help their development?

The U's are playing a lot better now, but I'm not getting to carried away, because Joe Dunne still has some big team rebuilding to do as yet before it compares with the promotion winning team that Parky built. Joe knows that himself.
