It was a record-breaking pram race day for East Bergholt.

Bank Holiday Monday’s charity event was this year on the theme of famous detectives, and 22 teams took part – the highest ever.

As crowds lined the 2½-mile route to watch the race, they were astounded to see the winners, the Royal Oak team, cross the finish line in a record-breaking 15mins, 15secs, leaving their rivals trailing behind.

The annual event sees costumed teams of three race around the village in a decorated pram, stopping at its pubs for a pint on the way.

As always, plenty of effort was put into following the theme, with Miss Marple, The Pink Panther and Poirot all putting in appearances.

The best fancy dress prize was awarded to the Red Lion team, who themed their pram on Scooby Doo.
