Photographic Exhibition TO commemorate the important role Peter Bishop played for many years in managing the society's photographic archives, East Bergholt Society held a photographic exhibition of the great storm of Friday October 16, 1987 at the Lambe School on October 21.

Approaching 150 photographs illustrated the local devastation in the village centre, at Hughes Road, Elm Road, Gatton House, Rectory Hill, the almshouses, Gandish Close, Gandish Road, Chaplin Road, Old Hall, Cemetery Lane, Hadleigh Road and at East End and Flatford. The theme of the exhibition was chosen by Jessica Bishop.

Stour Valley Arts and Music THE 57th season of Stour Valley Arts and Music began in St Mary's Church on October 21, when the Navarra Quartet - Yander van Vliet and Marije Ploemacher (violins), Simone van der Giessen (viola) and Nathaniel Boyd (cello) - played compositions by Haydn, Mozart and Respighi.

Next presentation is on Sunday, November 18 at 4pm, again in St Mary's Church, featuring the London Harpsichord Ensemble, the longest established chamber music group in Great Britain.

St Mary's Church THE family communion service at St Mary's Church on October 21, was conducted by the Rev David Searle assisted by Dorothy Brundell. There were readings by June FIrmin, Kate and Ian Scantlebury and intercessions by Diane and Courtney Willett.

On Bible Sunday, holy communion is at 8am and there is a family service at 10am which will include the baptisms of Jennifer Brown and Abigail Woodend.

Children's Society boxes realised £706.52 during the last year.

New Opening Times THERE are now new opening times at East Bergholt Post Office which are: 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 12.30pm Saturday.

The postal department is open lunchtimes and all day Wednesday.

Friendship Club THERE was a Friendship Club meeting in the Congregational Church Hall on October 18, when Glynis Potter spoke about Harambee Fairtrade.

At the next meeting in the hall at 2pm on Thursday, November 15 Barbara Loveless will show how to exercise to music.

A Christmas lunch is planned for Thursday, December 20.

Cricket Club AS there was not a quorum of 12 at the annual meeting of the Cricket Club in the Gandish Road Pavilion on October 18, there will now be a special committee meeting at the Red Lion on Tuesday, November 6 with all members invited.

Riding For The Disabled THE Ipswich branch of Riding For The Disabled held a fundraising walk of approximately three miles on October 19, starting from Flatford car park.

There was coffee and biscuits before setting off and a lunch of smoked salmon sandwiches and homemade cake with wine or soft drinks on return. Children and dogs were welcome, and parking was free.

Quiz Night TEAMS of up to six contested East Bergholt Junior Football Club's quiz night, which included a ploughman's supper, at the Constable Memorial Hall on October 20.

Community Council THE Community Council's three-centre London coach trip on October 21, featured the Tower of London, Tate Modern and South Kensington museums, a Thames cruise, a visit to HMS Belfast and London Dungeons; the Globe Exhibition and South Bank walks; and going to see the Science, Victoria and Albert and Natural History Museums supplemented the main attractions.

The Community Council's fifth Victorian Christmas street fayre will be held on Saturday, December 1 from 6pm to 8pm. There will be stalls, street sellers, sideshows, entertainment and a variety of food and refreshments. Half of all proceeds will go to Children in Need.

Sports and Leisure Centre DURING the school's half-term holiday, there were events at the Sports and Leisure Centre. On October 22 there was a Strikers football course for boys and girls aged five to 13 years with technique coaching, a penalty competition, a small sided team tournament, certificates, prizes and medals.

On October 23, pet advice for children was given during a pet workshop. Proceeds were for the RSPCA.

Basketball STARTING on Wednesday, there will be seven weeks of after school basketball at the Primary School from 3.30pm to 4.30pm for all year groups.

Last session will be on Wednesday, December 12. Cost is £24.50.

Forthcoming Events THE East Bergholt and Brantham branch of the Royal British Legion presents an evening with 60's folk music icon Julie Felix in the Constable Memorial Hall at 7pm for 7.30pm today. Tickets at £17 each are available at the Post Office or contact John Baker on 298336. There will be a bar, ploughman's supper and a raffle. Proceeds are for the RBL's Welfare Fund.

The Constable Country Medical Practice's annual flu clinic is from 8.30am to 1pm tomorrow. No appointment is necessary. Donations will go to East Anglian Air Ambulance.

There is a Time and Talents meeting in the west end of St Mary's Church at 2.30pm on Wednesday.

As part of Brantham Amateur Theatrical Society's Play Festival 2007 in Brantham village hall tomorrow, East Bergholt Dramatic Society will perform Twelve Pound Lock by J M Barrie, Ledgers by Phil Gardner and Semblance of Madness by John H Newmeir.
