Dramatic Society THE Dramatic Society presented an evening of one act plays at the Constable Memorial Hall on November 23, 24 and 25. Ledgers by Phil Gardiner was directed by Kieran Farrell, I'm Not Laughing I'm Screaming by Sandy Taylor was directed by Sandy Taylor, Mutatis Mutandis by David Campton was directed by Val Eldridge, and What's For Pudding by David Tristram was directed by David Mitchell. Performers were Karen Mills, Keith Raby, Roy Bramwell, David Mitchell, Alma Bowen, Pippa Raby, Pauline Dable, Barry Eldridge, Debi Potten, Kieran Farrell, Val Eldridge, Richard Heath and Angie Heath. Sounds were by Terry Bramer; lights set up by Clinton Bratchell; prompts David Mitchell, Roy Bramwell, Alma Bowen, Debi Potten and Pippa Raby; front of house Chris Harris and Richard Lewis; poster and programmes by Val Eldridge; publicity by Angie Heath.

On November 24 and 25, there were special showings of Playing Sandwiches by Alan Bennett with David Mitchell as the Talking Head, directed by Val Eldridge. Next production will be in the Constable Memorial Hall on March 29, 30 and 31, hopefully the classic costume comedy set in the 1800's When We Are Married by J B Priestley. Quiz THERE were 17 teams - 63 participants in the Bowls Club's 17th annual quiz at the Constable Memorial Hall with quiz-master John Jeffreys. After ten rounds on various subjects, the winners were a team led by Terry Dadds, each member receiving a bottle of wine. There was also a raffle and nibbles. Next Carpet Bowls Club competition is the ladies and mens singles in the Constable Memorial Hall on Sunday, at 10am.

East Bergholt Society EAST Bergholt Society had a walk and talk by Katherine Blake of Dedham Vale Area of Natural Beauty and Stour Valley Project. The talk was in the Lambe School on November 23, and on November 25, there was a two-hour guided walk starting from Flatford covering about four miles with key aspects of the AONB landscape and sone environmental schemes which have been implemented being pointed out.

Gift Day Appeal ON behalf of the Parochial Church Council there was a village wide gift day appeal for St Mary's Church in order to meet costs as the general fund is £15,000 in deficit so far this year. On November 25, the Rev David Searle was in church from 10am to 1pm to accept offerings personally.

Celebration Party EAST Bergholt Heartwatch had a fifth year celebration party in the Lambe School on November 25, when there was a quiz, a buffet and a raffle.

Wayfarers THE Wayfarers had an autumn walk in the Brett Valley on November 26, over a distance of about five miles, led by Melvyn Powell. Twenty-two took part. Next is the Boxing Day walk starting from the King's Head at 10.30am. There will be mince pies and mulled wine in the pub on completion.

St Mary's Church THE Family Communion Service at St Mary's Church on November 26, was conducted by the Rev David Searle assisted by Dorothy Brundell. There were readings by Jean Conner, Diane and Courtney Willett and intercessions by Doreen Robertson. On Sunday, Holy Communion is at 8am and Matins at 10am. There is a Benfice Advent Carol Service at 6.30pm.

Meeting THERE was a meeting of the parish council's roads, footpaths and Flatford committee in the Benneworth Lounge on November 27. There was a discussion on the location of two new dog waste bins, a request to obsolete part of footpath 46, an update on the state of footpaths, and a decision regarding the precept for the financial year 2007/8.

The parish council has reminded parishioners to check that hedgerows and plants are not obstructing or impeding pedestrian access along public footways.

Lunch THERE was a lunch at the Congregational Church Hall last week in aid of Tear Fund. The Women's Royal Voluntary Service meal at the Community Education Centre on November 24, was cooked and served by schoolchildren.

Coffee Morning THE coffee morning in the west end of St Mary's Church in aid of the Buhumba Lunch Programme, organised by Jenny Lane, realised £150. On November 29, there was a similar event in aid of the Essex Air Ambulance, arranged by Edith Searle.

Refreshments SERVING weekday morning refreshments at St Mary's Church from April to October raised about £3,000.

Bridge THE Duplicate Bridge Club which meets Wednesdays, in the Lambe School from 7.15pm to 9.30pm would welcome new members. There are no membership fees, but a contribution of £1 is made.

Roadworks PARTS of Fiddlers Lane, the U4203, will be closed between December 4 and 22, while a sewerage system is installed near the junction with the B1070. Provision will be made for the passage of pedestrians and cyclists. The alternative route for vehicles will be via the B1070, Hadleigh Road and Elm Road.

Forthcoming Events ALL are welcome and there is free admission to the decorated Christmas tree event at the Congregational Church from 2pm to 5pm today, from 10am to 4pm tomorrow and from noon to 5pm on Sunday. The theme is Stages of Life.

The Community Council's pensioners' supper will be held in the Constable Memorial Hall at 7pm for 7.30pm today. There has been a booking list in the Post Office.

The friends of the Lambe School have a Christmas bazaar in the building from 10am to 11.30am tomorrow, when entrance is 50p including refreshments. There will be mystery parcels, gifts, cakes, mulled wine, unique postcards, a guess the weight of the cake competition and a raffle. Contact is Isobel Ansell.
