Maldon district: Council taking conservative approach to housing growth Maldon district: Council taking conservative approach to housing growth

Maldon is planning to deliver only half the new housing the Government has recommended in an attempt to safeguard the district’s countryside.

Maldon District Council , also keen to reduce the need for large-scale infrastructure changes, intends to target delivering 3,000 new homes between 2014 and 2029 - significantly less than the 5,955 identified by the Government as necessary to meet the needs of an increasing population.

Some 1,672 people are currently on the district's housing waiting, while about 95 are awaiting assessment.

The figure set has been identified as the council’s preferred approach to housing growth as part of its new Local Development Plan, which won’t be formally adopted until spring 2014.
