Princess Anne has met residents of new affordable homes in the Essex countryside.

She officially opened a development of 11 houses in Rams Farm Road, Fordham, today.

The houses were built under a scheme by the Rural Housing Trust, of which The Princess Royal is president.

As part of the visit, she was shown around the home of Alicia Rayner, 20, and partner John Lee, 23.

The couple were living with their parents before being offered a rented property because they could not afford a place of their own.

Property prices at Rams Farm Road will be kept low in perpetuity so villagers can afford to live there.

Anne Bishop, of the Trust, said: "This development will help Fordham to retain local lifeblood."

So how much were these affordable properties? And who will ensure prices are kept low in perpetuity?

What a pity there was only 11 built, I'm sure there are more than 11 couples that need affordable proprieties though.

The new deveopment looks really good. It fits nicely within the rural environment. I understand that people who are connected to Fordham can buy a 70% approx share only with cost depending on the size of the property. Whether that is affordable or not is debatable.
