AN RSPCA inspector is calling for information after an "alarming" number of cats have died in Dovercourt from suspected poisoning.

Residents of Manor Road have said at least five cats on the road have died in the past week.

David Smith, whose daughter's cat is one of those to have died, has called for vigilance fearing the deaths are deliberate.

He and neighbours reported the poisonings to the RSPCA, which has now put out advice and a warning to pet owners in the area.

RSPCA inspector Caroline Richardson said: “We are really concerned about what may be causing this - and urge anyone with any information at all to call us in complete confidence on 0300 123 8018."

Signs of antifreeze poisoning can include vomiting, seeming depressed or sleepy, appearing drunk or uncoordinated, seizures or difficult breathing.

If you suspect your at has been poisoned advice is to take it to a vet immediately.
