Hundreds of people enjoyed some fun in the sun as The Fling Festival took over Hylands Park.

The over-18s event oput on a brilliant day packed with a colourful and varied programme of theatre, comedy, burlesque, arts and crafts music and dance.

With performances and different bands throughout the day as well as stalls for face painting, turning rubbish into treasure, clay modelling and massage tents there was plenty to keep festival-goers entertained.

The different food stalls spanned from indian takeaways and paella to burritos and steak burgers while there were many different bars filled with ales, beers, ciders and cocktails on offer.

Many guests decided to camp overnight in the special campsite while others made use of the regular shuttle bus going to and from the city centre.

Liam Rich, Events Manager, Chelmsford City Council, says: “Early feedback indicates that this has been the best The Fling Festival ever!

"On Saturday we had over 4,300 festival-goers join us at Hylands Park to enjoy 400 performers and artistes.

"Highlights of the day included The Dub Pistols headlining the Field Stage, BBC 6 DJ Shaun Keaveny played a very popular set in the silent disco tent and crowds flocked to the comedy, burlesque and cabaret areas.

"But it was wonderful to see people trying something new in the dance and craft tents, and the forum hosted a number of heated debates, there was definitely something for everyone.

“The weather was wonderful and we’ve had some great feedback so far.

"We’ve had some nice comments from festival-goers saying that the festival had a lovely relaxed and friendly feel to it, and that it was amazing to find this type of event in Chelmsford.”
