GPs have put the home of one of Braintree's largest surgeries up for sale after terminating their contract to run it.

Senior partners at St Lawrence Medical Practice, who will hand over the contract to run the Bocking End service to Provide on Monday, have hired Braintree estate agents Joscelyne Chase to market the Victorian building.

The advert, placed on website Rightmove, put the building's price tag at £450,000 and suggested it could be turned into a house or shop with planning permission.

The move has thrown into question the future of the surgery, which treats 15,888 patients and closed its books to new patients in March due to difficulties recruiting new doctors.
