Mourners are feeling “bullied” after a crack down on what items can be left on graves.
A sign has recently been put up at the churchyard of St Andrew’s Church, Earls Colne, setting out information about what is acceptable in terms of grave memorials.
It is hoped this will make maintenance of the churchground easier.
However, people have complained about the new signs.
Earls Colne resident Rebecca Zaidi said: “I’m upset as my mum and grandparents are buried there.
“People pay a lot of money for a plot in churchyards and for gravestones.
The Rev Peter Allen declined to comment.
