Brazen drug dealing is escalating in Maldon town centre, according to concerned residents.

A Maldon family say dealing drugs has now become “so obvious” with fights also breaking out regularly at the lower end of the High Street.

The concerned family have lived in High Street for 2.5 years, but cannot afford to move, despite frightening confrontations.

The mother had been struggling to unlock her front door recently when she was threatened.

She said: “A man threatened to stab me the other night.

“He was so high and drunk.”

Her son added: “The night before last someone shouted ‘I’m going to pull a knife on you’.”

Insp Chris Kilgallen, of Maldon police, said: "If members of the public do witness any criminal behaviour, it is vital that they call it in and report it to police.

"Calls giving information may not always generate an immediate police response but they will help us build up a picture of what is happening and therefore enable us to target such issues."
