This is the first glimpse of Bradwell power station’s makeover during its decommissioning.

The site’s reactor buildings are beginning to sportanew look as demolition and weather protection work progresses.

Magnox is more than halfway through a programme of work which should see Bradwell become the first reactor site in the UK to enter the care and maintenance stage in 2015.

The site’s two reactor buildings have been separated for the first time since they were built in the Fifties following the demolition of a “central change” building.

Cladding, which will provide protection from the weather, has started to be revealed on the boiler houses. About 60 tonnes of scaffolding is being taken down after nearly two years of the 144ft high structure being concealed.

Scott Raish, site director, said: “Separating the two reactor buildings really is a marking the end of an era."
