Firefighters tended to a man and woman after they became unwell following a carbon monoxide leak in their home.

The man and woman were alerted to the leak by a carbon monoxide alarm and were advised to go outside and wait for the fire service, who were called to Collingwood Road, South Woodham Ferrers, just before 6.45pm last night.

When the crews arrived the pair were feeling unwell and were given oxygen by the firefighters.

Crews isolated the gas supply and handed the incident over to National Grid gas technicians.

The East of England Ambulance Service also attended.

A spokesman said: "We were called at 6.54pm to reports that two people had potentially suffered carbon monoxide poisoning.

"The patients were a man and a woman in their late 20s.

"Thankfully the clinical assessments at the scene were able to ascertain that they did not need hospital treatment and were left in the care of neighbours."
