DRIVERS are facing delays on the A12 this morning due to an accident involving five cars.

The crash happened on the north-bound carriageway between Stratford St Mary and East Bergholt just before 7.30am.

UPDATE 8.40am

Two ambulances and an ambulance officer are at the scene.

They are treating one patient and there are walking wounded.

The extent of the injuries are not yet known.

Recovery is currently at the scene.

Traffic is queuing back past junction 28 at Colchester Football Stadium.

There is also traffic on the south-bound carriageway past the scene.

UPDATE 9am

Two people have been taken to Colchester General Hospital following the crash.

They both have minor injuries.

Ambulance crews have now left the scene.

UPDATE 9.05am

One lane of the northbound carriageway has now reopened.

Queues are still back to Colchester Football Stadium, and there is traffic past the scene southbound.

UPDATE 10.35am

Statement from East of England Ambulance Service:

Duty Locality Officer Stuart Rhind and two ambulances were dispatched.

Mr Rhind said: “Both patients were in different vehicles.

“One man suffered minor cuts to his head and the other had minor injuries, so we were boarded them as a precaution and took them to Colchester Hospital for further care.”

UPDATE 12pm

All lanes have now reopened and delays are rapidly easing.
