POLICE are appealing for a man to come forward who they believe to be a “vital witness” to an assault which left a teenage with a fractured leg and dislocated ankle.

Two pairs of men were involved in an altercation which left one 19-year-old man from Chelmsford with severe leg injuries and another man, aged 18, with cuts and bruises.

Officers believe the man pictured could hold information vital to them solving the circumstances of this incident which took place in Moulsham Street shortly after 1.10am on Thursday, March 20.

Investigating officer PC Andy Tindale of Chelmsford CID, said: "I understand that this man tried to intervene in the altercation and I believe he could provide valuable information on the circumstances of what took place. So far we have been unable to trace him and I would ask him to get in touch with me at Chelmsford CID on 101.”

Two men have been arrested in connection with police investigations. A 33-year-old man from Braintree and a 44-year-old man from Colchester were both detained on suspicion of assault.

They were interviewed and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries and are due to report back on Tuesday June 17.
