A UNIQUE social networking site has been launched just for elderly people in Chelmsford.

Gransnet Chelmsford has started up to give anyone living in the city who is 50-years-old or older to socialise with people of a similar age.

The website has sections to find activities to do, local groups and discussion forums covering all CM postcodes.

The site was set up by Jo Johnston, from Chelmsford, and follows on from the national Gransnet webpage which launched in May 2011.

Mrs Johnston said: “There's no social networking site across the entire CM postcode area that is aimed at grandparents or the over 50s.

“I think it's about time this changed and we gave grandparents and the over 50s a more prominent voice in our society.

“What's great about our site is that it's gransnetters themselves who can list/review and recommend businesses or their favourite thing to do, to their peers.

“Anyone can add what they'd like see on the site or start a forum discussion about any topic.”
