A LABOUR councillor has been told she should reconsider her position after celebrating Margaret Thatcher’s death.

Tina Bourne, borough councillor for Colchester, posted a picture of a bottle of champagne on Monday with the words “chin chin” following the former prime minister’s passing.

When challenged by followers who said she was being "monumentally crass", Mrs Bourne replied: “Yes in her time Thatcher passed some monumentally crass policies.”

Following complaints Mrs Bourne, who is deputy headteacher at St John’s Green Primary School, apologised.

She said: “It was a crass insensitive thing to tweet, and I should know better. With sincere apologies.”

Will Quince, leader of Colchester Conservatives, has called for Mrs Bourne to consider her position on Colchester Council.

Mrs Bourne, speaking to the Gazette, said she unreservedly apologised for the comments.
