Firefighters contain diesel spill by river
SWAN carers are on alert following a diesel spill which landed in the Stour.
Fire fighters were called to The Walls in Mistley to contain the spill last Friday, February 1, which happened after a lorry lost some of its fuel.
The diesel covered about 20 meters by 10 meters of road and the greensward, which is a favourite spot for Mistley’s swans.
Crew from one Manningtree fire engine were called at 9.10am to divert the fuel by digging a channel to a pond to contain it.
They left shortly after 10.30am to leave the incident in the hands of the Environment Agency, which is still yet to understand who was responsible for the leak.
Anyone with information about the diesel spill should call the Environment Agency’s incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.
