THE END could finally be in sight for an eyesore factory which has stood vacant for years.

The owners of Bernard Uniforms have applied for permission to tear down the building in Main Road, Harwich.

Scott Properties has been trying to get the go ahead from Tendring Council after it became a hot spot for vandals.

The business’s staff are called to the site once a week to clear the site and make it safe and secure.

Because the building lies in a conservation area English Heritage must also be consulted. Usually anything which is torn down is required to be rebuilt in a similar style, or have investors lined up to develop it.

Scott Properties wants to build 34 homes on the land, but regeneration has been put on hold until the economy strengthens.

Phil Luxford, of Scott Properties, hopes if the building is torn down it will look more attractive to buyers.
