A CONSULTATION has been launched into which areas of Chelmsford should have their street lights turned off at night.
Essex County Council has decided to introduce the scheme, which will see lights off between midnight and 5am in a bid to lower carbon emissions and light pollution.
Until November 30, representatives from parish councils, Chelmsford Council, the county council and emergency services will have the opportunity to discuss which places should remain lit up.
Residents will also have a chance to have their say over the plans.
Streets where part-night lighting is proposed include North Avenue, around Springfield Green and parts of Galleywood Road.
Derrick Lewis, county councillor responsible for highways and transportation, said it was important to get everyone’s views on the plans.
He said: “No street lights will be switched to part-night operation until we have consulted with parish, district and borough councils, and the emergency services.”
