Another needless death in Colchester? As a local cab driver in Colchester i see so many instances of the new cult of invincibility. Drunks cross the roads in town defying drivers to run them over, joggers and children on bikes cross straight over pedestrians without a pause or a look in any direction, other than directly in front of themselves and I have seen so many people cross the Hythe crossing when the gates are down. There seems to be a growing arrogance among not only the young but older people too that it is the rest of the worlds responsibility not to run them over, to kill them. If you step into the road and defy a good driver to run you over 999 times in a thousand you will be fine, we will do our utmost not to kill you. It is the driver who is 'on the phone', 'changing radio stations', 'listening to a screaming child','looking at a pretty girl, or boy' so many possible distractions, too many to mention. PLEASE people of Colchester you have a responsibility to help save your own life. Give us the chance and we ,everybody else, will try to save it too.

Such a sad story, again I have seen hundreds of people crossing here when the barriers are down, I for one have done it myself, but having been told off by the man who loves me I dont do it anymore. I hope that people will be more patient now.

I really hope it isnt a case of someone running through the closed gates, it seems that people just don't have time to live nowadays.

According to the Daily Mail (which is probably completely wrong) she tried to cross when the gates were down and got her foot stuck in the rails. The man was injured trying to help her.

There is a bit from a taxi driver also in the news list who confirmed the man had gone to help the woman on the line.

Just because it said that in the Daily Mail doesn't mean it's true - in fact something being in the Daily Mail probably means that it isn't true! How about avoiding pointless speculation until the investigation determines the cause of the accident.

I bought the paper too and theirs a lot more detail in there.

It has been confirmed by police that she got her foot trapped.

My sympathies to the train driver and the guys who tried to help. When will people learn not to try and cross when the gates are down???

does anyone know the girls name as the sun says her name is kelly a 29 year old but thats it
