KINDHEARTED Den Biscoe and Star editor Steve Cohen presented £1,340 to the Bucks and East Berkshire Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

The money was given to Trevor Barnett, chairman of the association, at Cressex Community Centre on Saturday.

The shield, set up by Den Biscoe from High Wycombe and the Star newspaper six years ago, is used to award the winners of darts championships and the money from the fees go to charity.

Den Biscoe, who organises the Star Charity Shield, said: "It went very well. They were so pleased with the money. They thanked the club for all their help over the years."

Trevor Barnett said: "We are so pleased with the money. It will really help us. It is amazing where all the money goes. We help out with things like driving lessons and grants for holidays. It is fantastic."

Den also organises a series of fundraising events, and the final proceeds are allocated to a different cause each year.

Last year the men's team from The Happy Wanderer, Arnison Avenue, in High Wycombe won the shield in the tournament on April 30, at Cressex Community Centre.

The ladies team from the Pheasant, London Road, High Wycombe also won the shield.

Den has been fundraising since 1977. They raised money from fees, have raffles and have activities like pram pushing and pub crawls.
