MARLOW Rugby Club continued their recent good run in South West Two with a 27-20 win over Abbey at Riverwoods on Saturday.

Marlow eventually finished on top in a game that saw both sides' fortunes see-sawing throughout.

But it was Richard Kinsey's Marlow side who took the early lead when Ewen Hunter converted a penalty after Abbey were caught offside.

Marlow applied plenty of pressure to the Abbey pack but they couldn't add more points as Abbey ably soaked up the pressure and then turned the tables on Marlow as they ran in a converted try to take the lead.

Rich Gilbert responded quickly with a powerful run to put Marlow back in front but, before the half was out, Abbey had nosed ahead again with another try to make it 12-10.

After the turn around, Marlow began to frustrate the visitors with some aggressive defending and when Hunter knocked over a penalty with ten minutes gone, Marlow were back in command, but not for long as Abbey responded in kind to go 15-13 up.

They stretched that lead to 20-13 with just ten minutes to go, leaving Marlow in deep trouble.

But the Riverwoods men responded with James Dollery and Fred Gorringe-Smith running in converted tries.
