THE plan to put a phone mast on top of a water tower took a new turn this week when residents were given two weeks to find an alternative site.

The controversial plan by One2One to add their telecommunication equipment to the tower in Georges Drive, Flackwell Heath, was refused planning permission by Wycombe District Council, last year.

However, the council failed to notify the firm of its decision within the required 28 day period taking 29 days instead meaning the phone company can go ahead with its original application.

Angry residents, who campaigned against the mast, were told at a meeting on Tuesday that an alternative site would be considered if it was found by the end of the month

A council spokesman said: "Councillors and residents met the company to voice their objections to the proposed development.

"One2One agreed to work with the council and local residents in the next few weeks to see if alternative sites could be found."

Resident Norman Nea, of Georges Drive, Flackwell Heath, said: "We are just waiting to see if we can find a suitable site within ten days. But Flackwell Heath is vastly built-up and every time we find a site it is not suitable for other residents."
