BLUES boss Lawrie Sanchez celebrated his 100th match in charge of Wycombe Wanderers at Millwall on Sunday and said "we're on course for promotion."

He said: "We've improved each season I've been here. We've changed from being a team that was getting beat every week into one that is now very difficult to beat. It's been evolution rather than revolution.

"I want to finish the job and take us up into Division One in my time here. We aren't far away. I've got a good group of players here."

Sanchez warned that if Blues miss the play-offs this season there could be some changes afoot in the summer.

Around half of his squad are out of contract then and he warned: "This season will be the last clearout of people who were here before I was. From next season it will be all the people that I want here."

Ben Townsend continued his record of never being on the losing side when he made his fifth appearance for Blues at Millwall.

And the youngster, who was playing in an unfamiliar left back position because of injuries to Chris Vinnicombe and Alan Beeton, did much to preserve that with an all-round star performance and a match-saving tackle on Millwall hotshot Neil Harris.

He whipped the ball away from the second division's top scorer just as Harris was clean through on goal.

Sanchez said: "He looked like a seasoned professional. I thought he did excellently."

Townsend said: "I knew before the game all about the Millwall fans and their reputation and I tried not too think about it too much. It took me a long time to get my first touch but after that I settled down. Now I want more games."

Andy Baird could be set for a bench role against Millwall despite not having trained for two months.

The striker who sustained an ankle ligament injury in early October was meant to return to training this week but was held back by physio Dave Jones.

Sanchez is hoping that Jones will give him the all-clear to train on Monday. If Baird comes through, he could be on the bench the following night.
