A BY-ELECTION will be held next month to replace two councillors who stood down last month.

Lesley Mallinder had been a councillor for ten years and quit her position on both Beaconsfield Town Council and South Bucks District Council at the end of last month, citing work commitments as her reason.

She was joined by Becky Linford-Jones who stepped down from her position on the town council at the same time.

The by-election will be held in the Royal British Legion Club, Candlemas Lane, Beaconsfield, from 8am to 9pm on February 22, with the results being announced at 10pm the same day.

Prospective candidates need to send in completed application forms by January 26.

For the district council seat, prospective candidates need to live or work within the district of South Bucks and complete a form with ten electors' signatures.

For the town council seat, any hopefuls will need to live or work in the parish of Beaconsfield and return a form with the signatures of two electors in the parish.

Mark Robinson, elections officer at South Bucks District Council, said the council had received no applications for the vacant seats as yet.

He added: "We don't even know if there will definitely be a by-election. If we only get one application then obviously that person will win the empty seat."

Beaconsfield town mayor Malcolm Dunlop paid tribute to the dedication and professionalism of Mrs Mallinder.
