GREAT-GRANDMOTHER Margaret Simmons, who was crushed under a car in a road accident, is seeking the "Superman" who saved her life.

Pensioner Mrs Simmons spent Christmas in Wycombe Hospital in a serious condition but has not forgotten the kind-hearted lorry driver who helped lift the car Clark Kent-style as she lay underneath it.

Mrs Simmons said he helped her like a "guardian angel" after she suffered head injuries, a dislocated leg and broken ribs in the accident.

The 76-year-old, of Rutland Street, in High Wycombe, was thrown into the air after being in collision with a Ford Escort on December 13 at the crossing in Lily's Walk, High Wycombe.

She said: "All I remember is having my hands on the bonnet of the car, then being thrown over backwards and just a shooting pain through my body and I was stuck under the car.

"I was the most frightened I have ever been in my whole life but this lorry driver came along, lifted the car and then got some other people to help him take it off me. It was amazing and I believe he saved my life."

She said that during her time in hospital she could still hear the calming voice of the mystery lorry driver telling her that everything would be all right.

She added: "He stopped people moving me until the ambulance got there. He laid coats on me to keep me warm and stayed and talked to me.

"He just managed to speak so calmly to me. I can still hear his voice but I would so much like to meet him and say thanks."

Peter Bentall, traffic inspector for Buckinghamshire, said: "He sounds like some kind of Clark Kent or Desperate Dan. You don't often get people lifting cars up in the air I would think that is fairly rare."

Details of the Ford Escort driver, a 25-year-old woman, have not been released.
