BEACONSFIELD Town Council has unveiled plans for a new £10,000 skate park after youngsters in the town gave it the thumbs up.

The council set aside money for a youth project and after speaking with youngsters at the town's Festival of Lights last week, decided to push on with plans to build the park and a graffiti wall.

Town mayor Malcolm Dunlop said the plans depended on council approval but said this looked "hopeful".

Skate fan Guy Bilgorri, 13, of Farnham Common, welcomed the idea, saying it would give him and his friends "something to do".

"When I go round my friends we just have to use his driveway and sometimes we are forced to go into the road.

"We have to go to Gerrrards Cross to go to the cinema or take a train into Wycombe and at the moment the nearest skate ramp is in Amersham.

Before the plans are approved, the idea will have to go before both the town council's leisure and recreation sub-committee and the finance and general works committee.

Cllr Les Davies (Ind, West Ward) is chairman of the leisure and recreation sub-committee.

He said: "We have taken advice from the National Playing Fields Association to get guidance.

"We need to get the right balance between putting the facilities near to people who will use them but also in a place where it will not be a nuisance to residents.

"We wanted to do something for the middle youth of the town as we have already done a lot for the playgrounds and we felt this age group was missing out."

Cllr Nico Sacchetti (Ind, West Ward), chairman of the finance and general works committee, said the youngsters needed more to occupy themselves with. He added: "We are looking into this idea and will do all we can to ensure they get it."
