ROCK star Dave Rowntree may have lead a pop revolution with superband Blur - but he is always ready to help out his gran.
Dave, drummer in the legendary Britpop band, will be opening the fete at Abberton Manor Nursing Home where his gran, Sue Bainton, helps out as a volunteer.
Libby Pearson, manager at the home, said: "Sue has been doing volunteer work here for the past year.
"She comes every week, even though she is quite frail, and helps out with all the activities."
The fair, on Saturday June 28, aims to raise money for the residents' entertainment and the East Anglian Children's Hospice.
Libby said: "We have activities four days a week and also have outside entertainers coming it."
The fair will feature performances by History Alive retelling acts from Colchester's past and the Caledonian Society's Scottish dancing team.
There will also be stalls, cream teas, children's games, a BBQ and raffle at the event which starts at 2.15pm.
* Abberton Manor was previously the home of another Essex celebrity.
Clean-up campaigner Mary Whitehouse lived there until her death in 2001 aged 91.
