MCDONALD’S is set to supersize its staff numbers when it opens 24/7.

The fast-food firm’s Leisure World Colchester branch is set to extend its opening hours to serve all day, every day.

It will be open around the clock from August 31, creating 20 new job vacancies.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “We have held the 24/7 licence for a while, but only operating on Saturdays and Sundays, to introduce it to the area and help people get used to it.

“We will be looking to take on 20 more members of staff to cover the extra hours.”

The fast-food store recently boosted its work force by teaming up with Colchester-based back-to-work providers Ingeus.

Ingeus is a Government-backed company which matches long-term jobseekers with employment opportunities.

McDonald’s turned to it to recruit six new employees last month.

Among them are Colchester residents, Aaron Howard, 22, and Cei Lewis, 25. Aaron, who was recently named New Starter of the Month, was unemployed for two years after leaving college.

He said: “I had no idea it would be so difficult to find work when I left college, and I was getting more and more frustrated until I was referred to Ingeus by the Jobcentre.

“You get so much help and encouragement working here – there are lots of training opportunities.”

Mr Lewis said the company allowed him to gain qualifications on the job.

There are career opportunities in any job. It's all about getting the chance. And it's easier to get another job when you're already employed.
