Foresters back in for music licence

A PUB has made a deal with neighbours in order to get a music licence.

The Foresters Arms in Castle Road, Colchester, had an application for a seven-days-a-week music permit turned down by the council.

More than 100 residents signed a petition supporting the plans.

But two complaints over noise concerns saw it refused.

Now landlady, Barbara Kingston, has compromised on her entertainment policy to get residents on-side.

She said: “Licence officers said I could put in another application if I got the residents who complained to agree.

“We held a meeting and the two that complained came and others aired their views.

“I have agreed with them I will not have music every night and that I would stop it at 11pm.

“Its a bit less than I had hoped for but its nice to have reached an agreement.”

Mrs Kingston has now submitted a fresh application and residents have 14 days to comment.

Thery are a grumpy lot down there. They move into a house next to Castle Park and then complain about noise. Even the guy who lives next door to the pub, complains about noise from the pub. Why did he move there in the first place, one wonders? This little pub is a gem. The music it would have had would probably only be some old boy with a guitar. Lighten up you old curmudgeons. Give yer faces a laugh, why don't you?

Sadly there are a lot of grumpy neighbourhoods in Colchester. Only recently on the St John's estate some old gits said they didn't want a children's playground. And then of course the wretched moaners about the travellers' site.
.
Anyway, I agree with Sdapeze, let's hope the application succeeds this time and that the Foresters' Arms is regularly packed out, as it deserves to be.

Hmmm, wouldn't want to live next to thumping music myself. I'm sure it was not always like this. but a desperate attempt on the part of the landlord to bring in trade I feel.

I would hesitate before using unsensitive words to describe residents in a cosy quiet area of town. Those in the know will appreciate the Forresters arms is situated amid rows of terraced housing where many residents are elderly retired citizens who value the serene peaceful surroundings, and proximity to Castle park. The quaint little pub is a asset to the local area, but one must remember, the designated area for smokers is situated outside where there are a few tables and seats, directly adjacent to the street. Consider this, together with music and general merriment, and you can appreciate the concearns of some residents.

Having spent many a Sunny Day outside Squirrel watching whilst enjoying a good pint with very pleasant, mature folk. I feel yes The Foresters, could benefit from some laid back music such as Folk, to reflect the little gem that it possibly was and to represent past folk that I had the honour to relax with, my main concern is that the last time I went in there it had been revamped, but I hope it does not lose the mature aspect of Folk in general. It could be as it was a little gem away from the hub-hub of Town!

I certainly guess the late Alan Kent would approve! What a smashing bloke that reflected all that went in there, with good memories of The Foresters!

The squirrels were indeed splendid to watch! Sometimes took hours to see them all properly ;)

I knew Alan Kent and many of the other heads at the old Foresters, I'm sure he would approve. He was indeed a top man.
