A dedicated and highly-respected dentist has died during a motorbike race.
Roy Parbury, who owned the Art of Denistry dental practice in The Avenue, Colchester, was competing in a British Motorcycle Racing Club race at Lydden Hill in Kent when the accident happened.
He died as a result of his injuries.
Mike Dommett, chief executive officer of the club, said Mr Parbury, who was 54, was in the top six racers in the country in the Yahama Past Masters class last year.
The class features mostly older Yahama machines of either 250cc or 350cc which can reach speeds of 100mph.
Mr Dommett said: "Roy was regarded by the club as a true gentleman of racing. He was well-respected by other members of the class in which he raced and by the sport as a whole.
"It is a great loss and our thoughts are will his family at this difficult time."
Mr Parbury studied dentistry at the Royal London Hospital and had worked as a dentist in Colchester for more than 30 years.
His partner Jane Epsom, who is also the dental practice manager, said: "I was very proud of him.
"Most of his patients had been seeing him for 25 to 30 years and it carried on through the generations with their children becoming patients too.
"His staff had also worked for him for a long time and are a close group. It is a measure of how much he was liked."
