A CYCLIST has raised hundreds of pounds for a breast cancer charity in memory of his mother.

Paul Connell, of Colchester, took part in the Prudential Ride London which sees cyclists pedal 100 miles through the capital and parts of Surrey, taking in various hills and inclines along the way.

Mr Connell, who works as a financial planning and analysis manager for Abellio Greater Anglia, raised more than £800 for Breast Cancer Now to honour his mother Teresa who died from the disease 13 years ago.

He said: “My mum, Teresa King, died from breast cancer 13 years ago when she was just 52 years old and when I got a place in the ballot, I instantly knew I wanted to raise money for a breast cancer charity.

“It was a great event for people to take part in. I would like to thank my friends, family and colleagues for their support.”

Mr Connell collected £635 through donations while Abellio Greater Anglia pledged a further £200.

Veronique Sanders from Breat Cancer Now said: “In the four years I have been involved in the charity I have seen so many research and treatment developments and it’s with thanks to efforts from people like Paul that this continuous evolvement can happen.

“ Paul’s event was very challenging and he raised a fantastic amount of money.

“Breast Cancer Now can't continue to research to find an end to this dreadful disease without the dedication from supporters like Paul and we are very grateful.”
