CAMPAIGNERS say they are “over the moon” work to fix an eyesore has finally been carry out.

A verge between numbers 360 and 392, in Mersea Road, Colchester has been plagued by heavy goods vehicles using it has a shortcut for years, turning it into a “muddy quagmire”.

But now, nearly a decade after complaints were first made, repairs have been carried out and preventative measures have been installed.

The work has been funded by about £60,000 allocated by the Local Highways Panel.

Doris Gooch, who was the first resident to take up the issue, said: “I am completely over the moon about it.”

Dave Harris, Colchester councillor for Monkwick, said: “This has been an issue for a long time.

“We tried everything but eventually the Local Highways Panel agreed to help.”

As part of the work, the grass verge is now protected by fencing and cast iron bells, to make sure vehicles do not mount it.
