A LUCKY lottery winner is celebrating Christmas coming early after being awarded £25,000 because her postcode was picked out of the hat.

Julia Scarrott was presented with a cheque by former rugby star Scott Quinnell after her postcode was picked in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Teacher Mrs Scarrott plans to use the money to fund an extra special Christmas – but she won’t be hosting it.

Mrs Scarrott, 58, Wivenhoe, said: “I still can’t believe it.

“My daughter, Laura, and her husband and baby are over from NewZealand to celebrate Christmas altogether.

“My sister is hosting, but she joked that now I’ve won this money I should be doing it.

“Luckily, I managed to convince her otherwise.

“I don’t usually enjoy Christmas as it means getting into debt, but this year will be much better.”

As well as looking forward to a family Christmas, mum-of-two Mrs Scarrott also plans to celebrate her win with friends.

She added: “I’m going out for dinner and drinks this week to properly celebrate.

“I would like to treat myself, but I need to be careful as I know I can spend money far too easily.”

The primary school teacher and learning support assistant also plans to spend some of the money on “boring” things, such as new doors and carpets and a new cooker.

A second winner was also unveiled, but was not at home when Welsh and Lions rugby’s Quinnell turned up.

That person also won £25,000, but has chosen to remain anonymous.

Quinnell, who now presents rugby on Sky Sports: said “It was great to meet Julia.

“She was thrilled with her winnings and I hope she has a great Christmas with the money.”
