A MAN was hit by a car outside Essex University.
Emergency services were called to the accident, in St Andrews Avenue, Colchester, at about 7.40pm last night.
The man, who is in his forties, was taken to Colchester General Hospital.
The exact details of his injuries are not known, but a spokesman for the ambulance service said he was conscious and breathing.
Two fire crews were called to the scene to make the car safe. They left at 8.12pm.
UPDATE 12.25pm
ESSEX Police has launched an appeal for information about the accident, which left the man with serious injuries.
The 46-year-old’s grey Mazda 6 had broken down in the road.
When he got out the car, he was hit by a white Fiat Scudo which was trying to overtake.
He is receiving treatment at Colchester General Hospital.
The road was closed from Clingoe Hill until 11.30pm
Police officers would like to speak to anyone who saw the Mazda before the collision.
