A GROUP which helps children with learning difficulties has appealed for a little help itself.

Stepping Stones Play and Learn group has been shortlisted for funding from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund - but it needs public support for a share of the cash.

The group, which is based at the Wilson Marriage Centre in Barrack Street, Colchester, cares for able and disabled youngsters.

It wants the money to provide an early intervention service, giving outreach support and advice for families with youngsters who have been recently diagnosed with complex conditions.

It also wants to buy portable sensory and speech equipment to take into children's homes.

Other Colchester groups who are vying to get the funding are St Helena Hospice, the 7th Colchester (St Johns) Scout group and Colchester CAP Debt Centre.

The group with the most votes will get £3,000, the next £2,000, with the third getting £1,000 and the fourth £500.

To vote, go to www.communityfund.lloydsbank.com/communityfund/ and go to Colchester to see the options.
