A CALL to change the law to improve road safety has won the backing of MPs.

Colchester MP Bob Russell presented his call for two fundamental changes to the law to the House of Commons on Tuesday.

Under the Ten Minute Rule Bill, he asked for the legal drink drive limit to be lowered from 80 mlg in 100 mls of blood to 50mlgs.

And he asked for Parliament to accept Cassie’s Law, under which police would have the powers to temporarily seize a driver’s licence where they consider them unfit to drive.

The decision would then be taken by the DVLA as to whether the licence is returned or revoked.
