CONCERNED business leaders are hoping Colchester’s stores are not included among the 60 HMV shops closing.
The entertainment firm, which also owns Waterstone’s bookshops, announced the closures and £10 million worth of cuts on top today. The company has not said which of its stores will close and how many staff will be put out of work.
However Paul Bentham, manager of the Lion Walk Shopping Centre, has reassured shoppers that the Colchester HMV store is one of the most popular and he is in no doubt that it will remain open.
But there is no such guarantee that both the town centre Waterstone’s bookshops, in High Street and Culver Walk, will remain or that the substantial cuts won’t make a difference to the existing stores.
