NEW accommodation for students has been officially launched with a ground-breaking ceremony on site.
The Meadows complex, off Boundary Road, Colchester, will provide an additional 648 student bedrooms from next autumn for Essex University’s Wivenhoe campus.
In total the development will have 19 town houses for 228 students plus en-suite flats for a further 420 students. There will also be a pavilion, housing a common room, launderette and shop.
Uliving@Essex, a partnership made up of Bouygues Development, not-for-profit operator Derwent Living and investment company Equitix, is responsible for the £22 million project, which is part of the university's commitment to providing high quality on-campus accommodation.
